Most radio stars try to build up a relationship with their listeners. Some jocks especially those on the late night shift or talk radio tend to attract more than their fair share of odd ball or obsessive fans.
This edition in my Sound Archive series is another feature from Radio 4’s nineties equivalent of “The Media Show” called “Medium wave”, this feature dates from 1997 were “Radio Leeds Disc Jockey” Martin Kelner tells the tale of woe with an obsessive fan, which went from record requests to turning up on the doorstep of the radio station. We also hear from fellow BBC local radio host Ed Doolan and James Whale talks of his Talk Radio late night show as well as recalling his time in local commercial radio.
